Scissor Lifts 101: How to Operate Your Scissor Lift Rental

A scissor lift is an aerial lift machine made to lift personnel and equipment in a vertical direction and is the best way to reach elevated work areas. These machines are often able to handle almost any application that would require a ladder, tower, or scaffolding with better navigation, convenience, and more time effective. Often allowing operators to get jobs at elevated heights with ease, and effectiveness, and avoid unnecessary falls and injuries.

Scissor lifts come in a wide variety of heights, types and sizes that allow operators to get exactly what they need out of their scissor lift to insure the best results on their work site. With platform heights ranging from 19 feet to 40 feet and range in narrow to wide with platforms.

How To Operate a Scissor Lift (10 Steps)


Inspection:

  1. Firmly and thoroughly inspect the machine and operating area that your scissor lift will be moving to and from ensuring there are no obstacles, floor or potholes, or objects that may affect the machine.

    Operation: 

  1.  Pull the emergency stop button located on the machine control panel.

  2.  Select “platform” from the “off, platform, base select” key switch.

  3.  Enter into the platform.

  4.  Begin your job with the operating buttons, controller, and machine.

  5.  Your scissor lift has the capacity to be equipped with a high and low range for effective movement and travel. ( Recommended: use low range for compact, small, or tight areas.)

 Shutdown:

  1. Completely lower the platform.

  2.  Push the emergency stop button.

  3.  Turn the base key switch to the off position.

  4. When finished with your scissor lift machine, clear all tools, materials, debris, and objects from the platform.

  5. If electric, plug in the scissor lift to recharge the battery.
